Massage in Naples

A Client's recent Question:

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral Therapy is a light touch massage approach that can support dramatic improvements in the quality of your life. It releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction. The intent of this form of massage is to listen to the Cranial Rhythm and help the nervous system to relax and self-correct. Because Craniosacral is so gentle, it may be used with infants, seniors, people of all ages.

Craniosacral Therapy as used at Lighten Therapies is based on the foundation of Dr. John Upledger's DO's work. Dr. John was a pioneer who brought this type of massage and manual therapy to a greater range of people who have studied and fine tuned their skills with various levels of training and experience. Check www.Upledger.com for a practitioner in your area.

Sports and Brain Trauma... Cranialsacral Therapy

Sports and Craniosacral Therapy

Many of the sports that our kids are playing involve direct contact hits to the head. It's important that as parents we realize that the  energy of that impact may possibly cause damage not only to the brain but  also indirectly the rest of the body. Recent Images have shown that professional athletes who have received recurring traumas to the head have experienced damage to the tissues and impairment in the functioning of the brain.  Science and medicine is only just beginning to understand brain trauma and how it impacts a person's life.   But we do know that receptive trauma is dangerous. The brain is very complex and it's important to keep it healthy and balanced.

If your children are engaged in sports,  consider taking them to a Cranialsacral Therapist who quietly listens to the Brain and its Cerebral Spinal flow and knows how to direct the brain's cerebralspinal fluid and membranes into healthy motion and balance.  Cranialsacral Therapy can release stress, alleviate pain symptoms, increase mobility, and help the whole body to dialogue easier within itself and with its environment.

An Advanced Therapist can follow the movement of the Cranial bones for symmetry, balance, strength and amplitude to monitor and bring the CS back into balance.  She can feel deeply into the body's fascial system and release restrictions to allow the spine to move more freely, positively bringing more vitality and health overall.

If your children are involved in sports, the best thing that you can do is stay proactive in their physical care to prevent longterm chronic physical issues.

For more information on this gentle but profound modality of bodywork, call Sharon Hartnett for more information.  Children receive a discount of $25.00 off each session.

Warmly,

Sharon Hartnett

A Fine Poem for Sundays

Zen Master Ryokan

Lazy

Too lazy to be ambitious,
I let the world take care of itself.
Ten days' worth of rice in my bag;
a bundle of twigs by the fireplace.
Why chatter about delusion and enlightenment?
Listening to the night rain on my roof,
I sit comfortably, with both legs stretched out.

Massage and Bodywork: Art of Manual Giving

In the United States,  Massage was first licensed in the State of Ohio over 100 years ago as a branch of the medical field.  Since that time, massage in medicine has evolved in its many forms in order to support and nurture the human body.

In order to become a Massage Therapist in the US,  one must goes through an intensive study of anatomy, physiology, ethics  health practices, and manual therapies through classes and a thorough program of hands on training.  Ranging from one state to another, this can take between a few hundred hours to over 1,500 to become either licensed or certified.  Most therapists choose this field because they are interested in Science of the human body, but also in the Art of Giving in a very tangible way.  Massage is a beautiful combination of mixing science and the art of touch for healing and well-being.  It can touch into places that have long been forgotten.  Or it simply helps the body to remember its natural state of being.

Massage has turned into one of the fastest growing areas of healing.  Because massage involves the intimate act of touching the body in a way that it can relax, restore and repair, it supports by allowing the organic biological process to work in harmony and constant dialogue.  It is through the open communication and movement of all the various systems of the body, from a micro level to macro that all issues of health may be addressed and changed.

Massage can be seen as a Spa type of treatment, but actually it's effects are much more profound and felt than can be expressed in basic terms.  The reduction of stress through a gentle Swedish massage or very specific work such as Craniosacral Therapy, Structural Integration or Brennan Healing Science can help your body to create new pathways to a healthy mind-body-spirit connection.
