Massage in Naples

A Client's recent Question:

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral Therapy is a light touch massage approach that can support dramatic improvements in the quality of your life. It releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction. The intent of this form of massage is to listen to the Cranial Rhythm and help the nervous system to relax and self-correct. Because Craniosacral is so gentle, it may be used with infants, seniors, people of all ages.

Craniosacral Therapy as used at Lighten Therapies is based on the foundation of Dr. John Upledger's DO's work. Dr. John was a pioneer who brought this type of massage and manual therapy to a greater range of people who have studied and fine tuned their skills with various levels of training and experience. Massage and Flexibility

Posture and Flexibility

Most of the patterns in our body that keep us tight with tension have been based on habitual ways of holding our posture.  So it makes sense that in order to correct our posture, we need to release our old ways of moving, and on a sensory and proprioceptive level, re-educate ourselves to move differently.

So what is the best way to lengthen and restore posture?

Fascial Bodywork Massage and Postural Exercises are both excellent tools to find center and structural alignment.

Ida Rolf was a Pioneer in putting a 10 series of Fascial Bodywork sessions into a recipe to address the whole body as an interconnected working organism.  She saw the body as a web of interlacing connective tissue that could be manipulated to bring more integrity to movement and flexibility in relationship to gravity.

How do the sessions progress?

At the beginning of a series, the Massage Therapist will work with the Upper Body first, going to the lower half next, and on the third session integrating the superficial layers.  Next, the series moves more into core with a deeper level of touch, moving from different angles and line to bring more coherency to the well of the body. After that is accomplished, aligning the head and bringing balance to the work lines the body to move with flexibility and better efficiency.

Structural Integration works well with Core Based Exercises.  Some of the exercises that I recommend are:  Yoga, Gyrotonics, Pilates, Continuum and Tai Chi.  Also working with Yamuna balls and rollers daily can help lengthen the tissues and contracted muscles.

Structural Integration may also be helpful in 3 sessions to give your body more lightness and flexibility quickly.  At Lighten Up Therapies, upon request we also offer Craniosacral Therapy in combination with the SI work because of it's wonderful ability to balance the nervous system.
